I Like You vs I Love You

The word "Like" is used at the level of physical body, mind, intellect or ego and the word "Love" at the level of soul.

Examples are "I like this shirt"; "I like this car"; "I like his personality"; "I like his intelligence" etc.

The word "Love" is expressed for a person (I love you) or for Food (I love this food). In ancient Vedic philosophy human body and food shares the same consciousness.

Therefore, food is often symbolized as ‘I love my food’ e.g. I love mangoes or I love apples, etc.

When you are trying to say yes or no to a matrimonial offer, a question is often asked to you, "Do you like him or do you love him?" Like is at a superficial level and Love is at a deeper level.

In an arranged marriage, Love may take time to develop but in a love marriage, by the time you get married you are in love with each other. One should never marry at the stage of liking in love marriage.

In Vedic philosophy, there are stages of Love and they are Euphoria, Reaction, Adjustment, Liking and Love. When you get married, which is an arranged one, you are in a phase of Euphoria, which is the period of honeymoon. Once the honeymoon is over, you start reacting to each other’s habits then over a period of time you start getting adjusted as there is no other alternative. This phase is followed by the phase of liking and then the last phase of loving and this liking–loving phase may take up to 7 years. Then is the 7-year itch as it is described.

The initial phase of infatuation involves adrenaline and nor adrenaline chemicals and the later phase of love involves endorphins.

When you lose a partner at the stage of liking the mourning period is less but when your loved one departs at the stage of love, the mourning period may be prolonged and even may be forever.

The word "Love" is also sometimes used for materialistic things. Some people say ‘I love my car’ or ‘I love my computer’. This terminology is used for people who from their heart love a materialistic object. But more often the word "Like" is used for materialistic things other than food and human being.

Besides human beings and food, the world "Love" is often used for pet animals and that is expected as they also have consciousness.

To summarize, for anything which has consciousness we use the word "Love" and for anything else we use the word "Like". …Read More

It even happens in US: Doctor Gave Chemo to Patients Without Cancer

Hematologist-oncologist Farid Fata, MD, in suburban Detroit, Michigan, was arrested August 6 and charged with Medicare fraud. In a criminal complaint filed in a federal district court in Detroit, prosecutors said that the 48-year-old Dr. Fata ordered toxic chemotherapy for patients who did not have cancer or whose cancer was in remission.

Rather than keeping their heads down, some employees at Dr. Fata's high-profile practice challenged his actions before he was arrested, according to the government. One employed oncologist, for example, told agents from the FBI and the Department of Health and Human Services that he discovered that Dr. Fata had ordered chemotherapy for a patient whose cancer was in remission.

This oncologist and other employees also reported that Dr. Fata ordered intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) for patients whose antibody levels did not warrant the therapy. One nurse practitioner (NP) told federal agents that she pulled the charts for 40 patients scheduled for IVIG therapy and saw that 38 had neither low antibody levels nor a recurrent infection, which is another indication for the treatment. The NP consulted 2 other employees about the issue, and the 3 of them canceled the IVIG therapy for the 38 patients.

Dr. Fata's employees had internally challenged other practices they considered unethical, such as fabricating cancer diagnoses in patient records to justify insurance claims for chemotherapy and positron emission tomography (PET) scans.
Dr. Fata vehemently denies all the allegations.

sprritual blog Why Lord Krishna is called Makhan Chor

Krishna in our body represents pure consciousness and a child is always born with pure consciousness with no influence of mind, intellect and ego. The duality of mind starts at the age of 5 and the intellect start developing at early adolescence and ego at late adolescence.

In the first few years of childhood, the child has pure consciousness and has no power to discriminate between good and bad. For her / him everything is eternal unconditional love. He is loving and lovable. This phase in the birth of Krishna is called the phase of Makhan Chor. The child eats, sleeps or talks or steals nothing but love.

A loveable person always steals love from other and that is why Lord Krishna is called Makhan Chor. The word Makhan is symbolized with the essence of love. This is one of the reasons, why in our judicial system a child up to the age of 5 is taken as granted that he would never speak a lie.

After Krishna’s birth, a ritual is often performed by Krishna devotees, i.e. the ritual of breaking Dahi-Handi, where all the Krishna devotees gather at one place, climb on each other and then hit on the Dahi-handi and break it.

It also has a spiritual significance. In internal Krishna childhood perception Gopis represents your thoughts, who when gather together in harmony and churn (climbing up on each other) the milky curd (concentrated thoughts) produce butter (makhan), which is nothing but the essence of love.

The message is very clear that we must meditate or churn our mind with positive thoughts focusing on the purpose of life and use the resultant love in our day to day life. ….Read More

Believe What You Feel

On this day, Morrie says that he has an exercise for us to try. We are to stand, facing away from our classmates, and fall backward, relying on another student to catch us. Most of us are uncomfortable with this, and we cannot let go for more than a few inches before stopping ourselves. We laugh in embarrassment.

Finally, one student, a thin, quiet, dark–haired girl whom I notice almost always wears bulky, white fisherman sweaters, crosses her arms over her chest, closes her eyes, leans back, and does not flinch, like one of those Lipton tea commercials where the model splashes into the pool.

For a moment, I am sure she is going to thump on the floor. At the last instant, her assigned partner grabs her head and shoulders and yanks her up harshly.

"Whoa!!" several students yell. Some clap. Morrie finally smiles. "You see", he says to the girl, ‘you closed your eye; that was the difference. Sometimes you cannot believe what you see; you have to believe what you feel. And if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that you can trust them too – even when you’re in the dark … even when you’re falling". Read More

Rabies News (Dr. A K Gupta)

Does treatment of provoked bites differ from unprovoked bites?

Provocation is subjective and relative and specific to each dog/cat. However, obvious gross provocation viz., stamping, hitting, chasing, etc. possibly suggest that the animal may not be rabid. However, the wound treatment of animal bites is the same.

What is diagnostic of leukemia?
(Dr. Anupama Jaggia)

The presence of blasts more than 5% in the bone marrow aspirate coupled with confirmation by flow cytometry on blood or bone marrow is diagnostic of acute leukemia. In this day and age, confirmation by flow cytometry is absolutely essential. There are cases where blasts may appear in the blood, such as in severe sepsis or bone marrow infiltration in the absence of acute leukemia. Blasts are the immature spectrum of our blood cells and so they can at times be deceptive, and hence we cannot rely upon them a 100% to diagnose acute leukemia.

Reduce liquids to reduce weight

When it comes to losing weight cutting down on liquid calories is equally important "Weight loss from liquid calories is greater than loss of calorie intake from solid food, as per Dr. Liwei Chen, an assistant professor of epidemiology at the School of Public Health at the LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans, in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Body is able to self–regulate its intake of solid food. If you eat too much solid food at lunch, you’ll tend to eat less at dinner. But the same self–regulation is not evident for what you drink. The body does not adjust to liquid calories, so over time, you gain more weight.

Cutting back on calories from sugary drinks – by only one serving per day –can account for nearly two–and–a–half pounds of lost weight over 18 months.

Beverages are categorized into eight categories as follows:

  1. Sugar–sweetened beverages (including soft drinks, fruit drinks, fruit punch, or high–calorie beverages sweetened with sugar)
  2. Diet drinks such as diet soda and other diet drinks that are artificially sweetened
  3. Milk (including whole milk, 2 percent milk, 1 percent and skim)
  4. 100 percent fruit and vegetable juice
  5. Coffee and tea with sugar
  6. Coffee and tea without sugar
  7. Alcoholic beverages.
  8. Water with no calories.

The best drinks are water, plain soda and tea coffer with no sugar. Read More

ACE inhibitors can reduce dementia progression

As per a report published in BMJ Open, centrally–acting ACE inhibitors or angiotensin–converting–enzyme inhibitors reduce the rate of cognitive decline in patients with dementia regardless of their blood pressure levels at the time of their hypertension, said Padma Shri & Dr. BC Roy National Awardee, Dr. KK Aggarwal, President, Heart Care Foundation of India. We must start treatment in time and the results are visible within six months.

Compared to other anti–hypertensive drugs, the improvement in cognitive functions may be about 20–30% higher with ACE inhibitors.

There is a possible role of these agents in dealing with or preventing the onset of dementia in patients with normal blood pressure who are at high risk of dementia.

Amongst drugs, perindopril (not a trade name) appears to outperform others. The drug also has anti–inflammatory action.

If My Body Were a Car

This is just too funny - scary how true it is!!!

If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull...

But that's not the worst of it.

My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close.

My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather.

My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins.

It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed.

My fuel rate burns inefficiently. But here's the worst of it…

Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter, either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires
